Greetings all, I have been on the site seeking information for a period of time but had held off joining until I found a boat. I was fortunate enough to find a very well taken care of 1989 O'Day 240 a few weeks ago and my wife and I are in the process of making a few improvements and necessary additions. # 1 on the additions list is coming up with a safe and reliable mast stepping system as we plan on trailering to various lakes in the southeast and some spots on the ICW. we want a system that the two of us can use safely without having to rely on additional assistance. After looking at just about everything the internet has to offer I believe I have found a design that will work and that I can fabricate myself. Looking forward to getting started on it and will post photos when it is together. I found a manual for the boat available on Iheartoday.com for $30, anyone have another source or suggestion for a 240 manual? Its great to have such a nice source of information and ideas,Thanks.

Congrats on the O 240. My previous boat was a 240. I loved the boat. The cabin offered a lot of space and headroom for a boat that size. She sailed well and the colored hull made her stand out. Mine was on a custom trailer that had a telescopic ladder in front of the bow. The same area had a winch with a rope that ran through a block at the top of the ladder. The system made raising the mast easy but I wouldn’t want to go through that every time I wanted to sail.

Have to agree with you on getting the mast up and down. Wasn't too hard on a Catalina 22 we had years ago but we were much younger and the mast and rigging was much lighter. Might have to rethink how often we want to do it.

Congradulations , I just posted a few photos of what I use to step the mast on our Oday 25 . It owrks extrememly well ,is very safe and didn't cost a fortune . Look back through the recent posts .
