I had a previous entry - specific to the H-26 owners ... allow me to open it up to all owners - a very simple question ... I'm replacing the floor of my H-26 with a new ply-wood floor from Hunter. It comes unfinished. Any recommendations on the best way to refinish it? a. Teak Oil (Seafin or Profin) b. CETOL c. Varnish d. Other ... Will varnish - and/or Cetol cause the floor to be too slick? Will Teak Oil be durable enough? Any suggestions would be appreciated. (My thanks to the two who responded to my 'New Floor' earlier posting!) Tom Grass Grasshopper II H-26 #174

An ounce of prevention

Before installing the new floor boards apply a coat of epoxy on the underside and edges. This help prevent water damage in the future.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Varnish the top

I would coat the top of the floor with Daly's sea spar varnish (what hunter uses for the original varnish work). It is pretty durable and it will hold up to the traffic. I would put 6-8 coats on it because it is a high traffic area.

Sole/Floor

Currently, I'm working on replacement of our floor in our hunter 34. I've had reasonable results with marine spar varnish. These have about 8 coats, sanded with a flat block and 150 paper between each coat. It is labor intensive, but the results have been worth it. Mike

260 floor loose

The forward edge of the wood inset in the sole of my 260 Wand'rin Star has come loose. Do I need to take it clear up to reseal it into the depression? If so, how do you get it up without destroying it? Brigg

Answer to Brigg

I was told by Hunter Marine (Mike Thompson) that this floor is simply held down by sealant (5200, silicon, etc.). The implication is that you simply pry it up - and then reseal. I'm hopeful that more complete instructions accompany my new floor. Tom Grass Grasshopper II H-26 #174

Not 5200

Don't use 5200 for this kind of application. It will form a permanent structural bond and you will never be able to remove the sole without cutting it out. A couple of weeks ago forum members were raving about a finish called "Ultimate Sole". Search. Hope this helps.

Thanks

Thanks Monty, I WON'T use 5200 - probably silicon (again I'm hopeful that Hunter will advise me on what to use -if they do I'll post their instructions) and I checked into the Ultimate Sole product - really looks great. See the attached link. I'll post some pictures when I have it finished & installed. Thanks all! Tom Grass Grasshopper II 1994 H-26 #174
