New Fabric for the inside HOW to Clean the old???

My boat is a 78 great shape cushions just look old but not bad I can live with the pattttttern what ever it is for a couple of years till the grand kids get older but HOW DO YOU Clean the old Hurculion how ever you spell it and keep it from shrinking Help Thanks Ron Thweatt OSA P III HIYC NASHVILLE

Ron, I have a 83 OD34 that had the original fabric in it when I bought the boat and the same thoughts, that you have when I first got it. After long sessions of scrubbing and cleaning with different miracle cleaners, it looked worse than when I started. No matter how hard I tried, the fabric was clean but blotchy looking. My wife and I went to a few fabric shops and picked out some brighter stain resistant industrial grade fabric and had everything recovered. I pulled everything out and had it recovered at a local shop. The entire job cost 500. + fabric. Not only did it brighten up the inside, it got rid of the old "boat smell". It was worth every penny of it.

I used...

...Spot Shot. It's an aerosol you can get in most hardware stores and it worked perfectly on my interior fabric. Got rid of the dirt, water stains, and even the excess Life Caulk from rebedding my stanchions.Cheers,Bob

Used Berber Rug

Hi Ron,Have a 1978 27' O'Day and replaced the fabric last spring with Berber (sp?) carpet purchased at Home Depot. Removed the bonding glue used by O'Day with a stiff brush.Bonded new carpet with rug adhesive. Also found any place the carpet did not stay in full contact could be pushed in place the next day.Took me about 12 hours. 4 hours were wasted trying to scrape / sand off the old glue before using a stiff brush and 2 hours wasted building braces to hold the rug against the hull.It looks great! - absolutely everyone that has come aboard has been impressed.Think it cost about $100 for materials.Good spring project - did mine during 2 days of rain.Bob
