went o my rope source this morning to get my halyard rope and this is what i came back with see pic below...it is supposed to be better than sta set ...i was wondering if anyone knows about this rope......

:D...no lol i just cant remember what the name of this rope is ..... as i said he didnt have any stayset long enough .......and showed me this rope as an altenrtive and stated to me that it was stronger than stay set.....it has a sorta of basket weave in the outer cover and is supposed to be a lot stronger was hopeing some one can reconize it and reinforce that it is in deed stronger ...it will just make me feel better about it is all :)...it is made by new england rope ...and it is a cool looking rope btw.....

Stu ....the nearist i can tell is it is called T-900 and by the chart it is about twice as strong as stay set ...so if i am correct in my search i got some good line here......

Could be NER VPC. If it's for halyards it is lower stretch than Sta-Set or Sta-Set X. Never personally been a huge fan of Sta-Set X but VPC is good stuff. The picture is marginal, so tough to tell, but VPC usually has navy blue & red tracers and a looser weave, as in less strands, to the outer jacket. T-900 is quite expensive and has a 24 core cover/jacket which is a much tighter weave jacket..

If it's VPC the core will be a off-whitish color like this (that is VPC in the photo below):

The T-900 is stronger than sta-set... in fact everything is stronger than sta-set. The question is... what size is it and how much did he charge you for it. If all you wanted was a sta-set quality rope... I hope he didn't oversell you and charge you accordingly.

FYI Minney's has a large spool of Kevlar that he is selling for .49 a foot. Its beige in color.

Main...this rope looks more like the VPC than any of the others even down to the core...thanks for the reply


Joe....it is 10mm ...as for the charge per foot price with all due respect to SBO..it cost me about .37 cents a foot and i got 420 ft ...along with 30 ft of floating db 1/2" safety line also 50" of db stayset 1/2" and three hanks of 3/8 stay set 85' long and 150' 1/4" stay set and 300" of 1/2" anchor line 3 strand......total was $200.00 in all...i have knowen theses people for about 38 years or so and used to buy from them when i was manufacturing custom power boat trailers back in the 70,s.......i was told that the vpc sold for about $3.00 a foot.....it is nice to have old friends.....
