I'm having to repower my Cat 28 as old engine, universal M-18 failed, any suggestions on replacement engines. Dealer suggested a Beta 18 - 20 but I can't find the engine specs on the M18 for engine mounting.

Check with the selling dealer for the specs if he wants to sell you an engine he will provide them

Thanks Woody, good point and for the cost of the new engine that should be his responsibility.

You may have already purchased a new engine already, but have you considered an electric propulsion engine? It produces no emissions, makes no noise, has no transmission to fail, creates instant power with no lag, will never need oil or run out of diesel fuel. The only thing is the big initial investment in a big battery bank. But if you keep you boat in a slip like most of us, then it is just sitting their being charged up 95 % of its life. Just food for though, but when my diesel dies one day, this is what I'm looking into, as it is the engine of the future.

If you do the cost between the two you will find that electric is more than a diesel in the long run and it also limits you to short runs before recharge of the batts not saying it is bad just not practical of convenient for great distances Some times we need the long run weather we like it or not

Look for a new engine that has the self bleeding feature...my humble 2 cents.
