Good monring all, How often do you need to replace the engine mounts on an inboard (VolvoPenta 2002) diesel? How do you know when you need to replace? Would you use OEM (yuck) or other? Thanks for any comments!

Esail - Sorry, no answer to your question. But I have a few questions for you. I just came into possesion of a new old stock 2002. Are you happy with the engine? Did you have to do the transmission spline conversion? Any input is appreciated, info on this engine is hard to come by. Thanks, John

Have manuals (most brands) - not a lot more!

Hi John, Since I got one I hear all sorts of things about these engines - they are very robust at the core but have a bad cooling system (press fit pipes, prone to scale) and not great electrical connections, HOWEVER it one has one that is running well they seem to stay that way - if your one is not close loop cooled - add it - you will not regret it. Parts are a little expensive … Here is the link to the manuals --> http://www.motoren.boten.nl/ a very good resource for manu brands! Still interested in the mount question. Where/what do you sail out of the capital! E.

Thanks

I have a 78 hunter 30. I'm on the hard at Bert Jabin's for a long time now. Lots of work. Starting to see the end though. I just got the 2002, it does have the freshwater cooling installed. I have to do the spline fix, before I install. Also have to change the stringers a bit for the 7 degree down angle trans. The engine is brand new, but been sitting in the crate for I guess 8 to 10 years. Looks fine, no dry rot or anything. Trying to get hold of a Volvo mechanic to look at it, and maybe install, but no luck yet.

They last a long time!

I replaced my originals after 27 years because they no longer allowed shaft alignment and held it. I think this a use until you wear them out item. David Lady Lillie

David - other that being able to maintain alignment where there any other improvements such as reduced noise/vibration etc? Thanks for the info.
