How critical to correct overpowered prop ?
I'm in my first season of ownership (28' Sunstar), with a 2-cyl volvo penta 2002, very recently rebuilt. Prop needed changing and the one that I got was the same as the previous one except it has some cupping shape in the blades, making it overpowered, apparently. Rated for 28-3200 WOT under load, I can only get 2500. Mechanic suggested I might be OK running at about 2000 for the season and get the blades pounded flat when I put it on the hard next spring. Does this sound OK to you more expert guys? 2000 is 80% of actual WOT and 71% of low end of recommended WOT and 67% of midrange of recommended WOT. Hate to have to pull it out of the water mid-season. What think ye?Did another calculation and wondering if I should run around 2200 instead of 2000? This would be 88% of actual WOT and 73% of the mid-range of recommended WOT.
