Just a quick update to let the forum know the very good experience I had with getting a full set of replacement cushions for my 1987 Hunter 23. As a result of a recommendation from this forum I contacted US Yacht Cushions in St Petersburg FL. I just received the cushions yesterday, they fit PERFECTLY, look terrific- I changed the interior/exterior color scheme from blue/dark blue to black & burgandy on both the boat graphics, boottop stripe and bottom. The cushions are burgandy/grey weave, original Hunter specs all the way around, and I came in under my budget of $1000 for cushions and delivery to New York. Very Satisfied. Bob and Marcie Winkler were a pleasure to deal with. Their # is 727-322-5352 in case you're interested.
P.S. They are NOT paying me for this endorsement, I'm really just a very happy customer and want you folks to know.

Thats very good to know! I need to purchase a full set as my H23 didn't come with any cushions.. not even the foam.. What foam did you wind up going with (I understand there are several different types/widths available). I've heard nothing but good things about US Yacht Cushions, and they are only about an hour from me so I could save on shipping :) Please post some pictures! I would love to see how the cushions look as well as your new color scheme both inside and outside the boat.

Cheers,
Brad

I believe that they did the interiors on many of the boats depending on the year.

Thanks for submitting your pics, I was away for awhile and wasn't able to post any pics. I'll do so the next time I visit the forum, only have some photos on my phone at the moment. Your cushions look great, mine are more of a grey/burgandy weave which give the appearance of light burgandy solid color.
The best part is how they fit absolutely perfectly, they really delivered on that promise & I was a little skeptical.
Another poster's comment about a grand here, a grand there...yeah, that's the joy of owning a sailboat, a thousand dollars per project is not unusual, but if you shop around, you can get some good value. Point in case, I got my replacement graphics for about $80 because I was willing to apply them myself, not really hard either. I budgeted about $400 for the job originally. I'll post pics of those too next time around.
Breezes have been strong here on the Great South Bay NY the past weeks, got a good start. Can't wait for this weekend.

Peter:

Just remember a good (proper) fabric is going to make the cost down the long run less expensive. "Most" people that can sew cannot make cushions like these. The knee on the bottom cushion and back make this much more complex.

We also went with a fabric that is wear resistant (abrasion from scooting). This happened to be from the folks that make Sunbrella, but they are NOT anything like the canvas that we use for sail covers. The fabric is also stain resistant and is actually suitable for outdoor use (like around pools). The bottom line is this fabric is probably a lot more expensive than you would get with a $400 job.

You also want to stay away from any metal on the zippers (rust). If you have cushion that will have one side against a fiberglass surface, they probably should be vinyl so mold/mildew is easy to clean up.

If you plan on sleeping on the boat you may want to speak to them about the different foam quality/density too.

Needless to say I would suggest that you call them and get an estimate before you get the "lowest bid" (government style).

Here's the pics I took today of the really nice cushion job from US Yacht Cushions, very happy with them.
Also, I put new graphics of my own design on my Hunter 23, now officially the "Maritime" (as in time spent on the water with my lovely girlfriend Maria, not bad, eh?)

Hope you like the pics and they are of help & interest.

Very nice! All of it. The cushions, the graphics, and the new name. Reminds me, way back in the 50's, when I named a boat the Merry K. My girlfriend then was Mary Kay. My next girlfriend, who became my wife, did not much like the name.

Ed: This is why you never-ever name a boat after a wife!

Heather Marie is the daughter!

$700 for the cushions because he had the material in stock for some time & wanted to move it. It was the color I was looking for, I got lucky. Otherwise would have been closer to $800, but cost can go up depending on selection of fabrics. Shipping was $96.49 to Long Island, NY through A. DuiePyle shippers.
All in all, I'm very satisfied & came in under my original budget estimate of $1k.

Peter: Bob & Marcie are first class folks. They deliver what they promise. If/when I redo my Hunter Vision 36, they will be doing the work.

I am glad you were satisfied.
