I took my 39 year old daughter out yesterday for her first sail on my 26D. The lake was calm with about 8mph wind. She sqeeked at the first healing of about 5 degrees so I put her at the helm and I handeled the sheets. Three hours later we are in winds of 15-20, reefed, healing at 20 degrees and she is in full control washing the windows. Once you learn to trust the boat it's fun to the max.

Way to go... I find that letting newbies steer the boat gives them a tremendous amount of confidence and sense of participation. I always ask them to steer so I can work the boat. I like to show them how to stop the boat and get under way again.
