Brad. I have a thought. Since you have not yet purchased your boat, perhaps you can buy one that has the color you want, from the factory. It's a matter of prioritization. I'm like Stu, up here in California, but I gather that in the Gulf and in the Islands heat can be a real factor. In those areas I would seriously consider if a dark hull is advisable. Are you going South? In any case, there are a lot of boats for sale now, so you should be able to find one that fits your perameters. Sounds like fun!! Good luck.

I had one side of my boat re-gelcoated. A couple of yards tried to talk me into painting but i wanted something that is more durable in the long run, it doesn't take AlGrip long to show up the odd scratch and there is little or nothing you can do about it. The gelcoat is tougher and can be cleaned up if it gets marked,
Gel coat would be more expensive than painting but i am glad i went down that route.
