Anyone ever try to do this? I lost a line this weekend, the day after I got my new(old) boat in the water for the first time! Big storm came up from the SouthWest and it appears the 1st mate was alittle sloppy on the line securing detail. No damage but was considering 2 cleats for spring lines...Thoughts? Thank God for the good Marina folks at Herrington Harbour MD!!!

Don't blame it on the first mate...

or you won't have one. You are the skipper, it's your responsibility. If I were you I would pay close attention to the more experienced boat owners in your marina and heed their advice. Although nice to have, you don't need midship cleats to rig springs. You can use the winches, bow and stern cleats or a mid dock cleat. I highly recomend you get a good sailing reference book like Annapolis or Chapmans.

Disregard the smartass replys

Congrats on your new boat! I think the best way may be to put cleats that are made to mount on your the forward end of your Genoa track. Easy to install, no drilling ect. You can install in seconds and usually a good fairlead to use as a spring line. The spring keeps your boat from moving forward in your slip.

Mid dock does same thing...

I think!! Tie off from bow and stern cleats to a cleat or piling amidship. Happy sailing

Thanks All!

I knew I would get reamed for this one...I'm now useing the aft winches. Spent a few hours looking at other boats and feel ok with useing them. Had a great overnight on her and only had one slight problem...the tiller split at the bolts. Time to get a new one...only 20 years old... See you all out there!
