I purchsed a new Garmin Echo50 chartplotter/sounder. Initial times turning on it would begin and shut down. Last weekend everything worked great. Yesterday it began shutting down after a few minutes. Disconnected thge transducer (inhull) and it stayed on, connect the transducer and it would go off in a few minutes. I suspect it is my wiring. Original depth gauge connected to the panel through a switch to a block (wiring size propably 16 ga). I extended from there to the cockpin locker to another block (16 ga wire), connected chartplotter wire there. Instructions say 18 ga if necessary to extend.
My question, is there enough resistance in the 16 ga wire to cause the chartplotter to shut down? I suspect something in the existing wiring but power seemed to be consistanr at each point. I do plan on rewiring it back to the panel switch with 18 ga wire, but was asking since the Echo50 is a new unit on the market.
