New center board pendant for 84 222

Does anyone know the correct specs for a new centerboard pendant for a 1984 222 ?Got one from Rudy but it doesn't seem right. He sent me a 12 foot long 3/8"(could be smaller, almost measures 1/4") rope with a D ring attached. Have called Rudy, but of course no response to me yet. Old line on boat seems to be about 1/2 inch and has about 10 feet in cockpit alone, so a total of 12 feet on new line seems very short...Also any help on replacing the pendant(feeding new line thru, centerboard removal, plates,etc) when boat is on stands would help. We plan to remove and repair centerboard so how high should bottom of keel be from ground(once on stands) in order to remove the board for repairs. Would 18" be high enough?ThanksLarry

222 pendant

can't help you but would be interested in anything you find out. i will have to check mine either this year or next. mine seems to be about 3/8" adn probably 10' or so in the cockpit.

Here are the details:

A 12' pendant is about right. When the keel is down there is about 6' of line out from the cockpit down through the curved tube, through a block at the top rear of the keel (centerboard well) and down to the bottom rear of the keel. I removed my shreaded one this fall and it looks original. 3/8" double braid with a 3" shackle long spliced to the end. The centerboard is 12 3/8" wide so if you have 18" your golden. Block the keel at the fore and aft edges. The aft block needs to clear the well while the fore block needs to clear the SS plates screwed into the flat bottom of the keel. To remove the keel: There are three philips screws in each plate. The larger #2 at either end of the plate screw into the keel. The smaller #1 screws into the plastic wedges holding the pivot post in place. REMOVE THESE FIRST! I stripped one of mine 'cause I didn't see it through the thick paint. Before removing the #2's put a temp bolck under the middle of the well. The keel weighs about 60lbs. Once the #2's are removed and the assy doesn't come out it means the bedding that was used to hold in the wedges is still holding. There is a little clearance to pry and slip a small putty knife up in there to try to loosen the wedges. I had to do that and wedge a fulcrum above the centerboard and lever under the aft end the force the fore end down and out.Once the CB was out I was able to look up the well and see the block at the aft end. It looks like if you feed a snake down from the top, it would come out above the block and you could force enough through for it to come down and out of the well. Atach the pendant and pull it up through to the cockpit. I'll be doing the same thing in a month or so.Post or send me your e-mail address and I'll send some pick of the parts if you like.Now you can help me. I's my first season with my 222. How long do you have to wait for it to be above 60 down on the Sound? I need to do a chemical strip and bottom paint job. My 222 seems to be an aniversary edition also...but no silver hull!See you on the Sound!

That was a big help. Here's my email(merzphoto@att.net) if you could send some photos it would help to visualize what we have to do this spring. You will love the 222 as it is a great boat and easy to single hand as well. Do you really have to strip the bottom? We sanded and applied two coats West Marine BottomKote and all is fine, even though the bottom had not been painted for years and the paint was in poor condition.We generally get the 222 on the water in the second half of May when the weather gets warmer.The 222 that we have is a 25th Silver anniversary edition, according to Rudy at D & R, there were only about 15 of them made. It came with an stronger Shaeffer furler, 150 colored genoa, v birth oday storage bags and of course the siver hull. You probably have a "regular" anniversary edition, with less special features, yours is also a 1984?You can see photos of the boat on this site under 222 photos.Thanks Again,Larry
