The Teak & Holly veneer cabin sole was not treated well by the previous owner & I would like to replace it. Has anyone removed the existing cabin sole on a newer Hunter ?? I see screws that could be undone, but do not know if the sole is also glued/glassed down. I assume the sole is plywood with a teak & Holly veneer, but have no idea how thick it is.
The alternatives I am considering for a new cabin sole include:
1. New Teak & Holly plywood at $300 a sheet or so
2. Teak stained bamboo hardwood flooring planks about 3/4 inch thick
3. Artificial Teak & Holly from AMTICO at about $7.50 a sq foot

I am leaning towards AMTICO flooring at the present time. I would appreciate advice and comments. Thankyou

Make your own sole

You can also make your own using cabinet grade ply and a "white" wood like poplar. You have to sort through the oak plywood for ones that have a nice straight grain. Then use the old sole as a pattern and route out 1/4" wide by 1/4" deep rabbits in the same locations as the old sole. Stain with teak stain. cut out the "white" wood into 1/4" x 3/8" and inlay them. use a plane to level them off with the stained plywood then finish with varnish or polyurethane.

Repairing Leaky Companionway Hatch

Im probably looking at the same repair once I figure out how to seal the leaky hatch over the companionway...thanks for the info.
We stopped the leaking by getting a snap-on Sunbrella cover from the Sew Shop in Northern Florida. I believe they were/are Hunter suppliers & have the patterns to make them up. Cost less than $200 & covers the whole sliding hatch area as well as the companionway hatch boards. My wife sewed 2 D rings into the top for bungies that are attached to the boom in order to "tent" the hatch cover so rainwater does not pool & leak through the Sunbrella.

How do you attach the snaps to the fiberglass? Any special tools required?

To attach snaps you just need to drill the proper sized pilot hole and then screw the snap in place. It is best to use a tapered plastics bit to prevent chipping.

The cabin soles were pretty much the same size. I would go with a lamanent that is of plastic materials to give you the idea it is teak and holly sole. When it is put down, make sure to seal the edges with a pure silicon seal. Hope this helps but if not, you can send me a message and any photos. I intorduced the 260 and 270.

crazy dave.
