New Bulkhead

Miss Izzy is getting a new starboard main bulkhead this spring. And none too soon. After about 7 hours of disassembling the interior cabinetry, I was able to see what awful condition the bulkhead was in.

The original bulkhead appeared to have at least twenty years of serviceable life left in it.

I had one come out of my 25 like that.... the other one came out partially like that and the lower part of it in handfuls of something the consistency of peat moss......

Any other pics of Sprega? You must have had a fair amount of movement and noise from those bulkheads when you sailed.

Actually, tfrench, the chain plate remained pretty solid. That is why I was so amazed at the condition of the bulk head when I finally got it out. By the way, weren't you going to replace the same bulkhead in your boat?

Yes indeed, I replaced all bulkheads (4) forward and added a fifth aft behind the galley. Send me an email and I'll send you pics if you like. My email: tflb11@gmail.com.

New bulkhead is in place and starting to put "Miss Izzy" back togeather. Just a bit more glass work

The other side. The Aquatec marine ply looks close enough to the teak in the other bulkheads that I am going to leave it with just the epoxy finish.

A little slow going on the bulkhead replacement. Waiting for dry weather to install the chain plate. The cabinet in the head is back together, just needs to have the screw holes plugged. All of the trim is on the new bulkhead. Once the chain plate is installed I can put the upper cabinet and drawer unit back in the galley, get the screw holes plugged, tune the rigging, clean up the boat, put the cushions back aboard aaaaannnnnd GO SAILING!!!

Bulkhead installation is complete. Just a few screw holes left to plug and some minor trim to do. Started getting the boat cleaned up this afternoon.
