Hello...again...Here's the latest on my new boat, BlueBerry. I am going through each of the boat's systems one at a time, and am now up to the "M's" , like MSD. The boat has an aftermarket (I believe) installation of a "lectra/san". I have three questions: 1) how do i find out if my sailing area (inland lake) is a "No discharge zone" ? 2) does the fact that the lectra/san unit is a USCG certified type 1 MSD make it "legal" to discharge treated sewage, or does there need to be some certification from the installation? 3) if i am in a no-discharge zone, is there any reason to keep the system on the boat, rather than revert to a simple type 3?

NO DISCHARGE ZONE

Greg, Lake Lanier is a NO DISCHARGE ZONE as well as all other lakes in the country if I am not mistaken. Even treated sewage CANNOT be discharged. "Y" valves are not supposed to be allowed either. When I bought my H30, I took the "T" out of the lines so that now I can only use a pump-out station. Pray for some rain. Lanier is so low, I havent got any paint left on the keel teehee

Alan is correct...Lanier is a "no discharge" lake

I was on Lanier for nearly 20 years. You cannot use the Lectra/San there...only holding tanks are legal, and they can only be emptied by pumpout. Y-valves and/or any ability to dump the tank are illegal, and the GA DNR is very active when it comes to enforcement. So you'll have to remove the Lectra/San, and plug the thru-hull. However, I'd only take it home and store it (after first making sure it's VERY clean)...I wouldn't get rid of it just yet. There's a bill pending in Congress that would make it legal to use, even on "no discharge" waters--a bill that was finally about to make it out of committee...then 9/11 happened, and congress has had more important things to deal with ever since...so it looks like it'll be a while before it comes up again. But things have to get back to normal sometime...the Lectra/San is $1,000 device, and you have one. I'd hang onto it for a year or so. Meanwhile, you'll find that the articles in Head Mistress forum reference library (right hand side of the forum homepage) will be useful when it comes to selecting a holding tank and installing it. as expected....

but what is even stranger....the Y valve had already been removed (so i'm legal i think), and it appears that the lectra san output goes through a macerator/pump and up to the existing holding tank....i just could not figure out why anyone would do that! anyway, this weekend i will really take a look at how it is set up, and if nothing else, get back to basics. thanks for the input.
