New Boat Motor

Im replacing my old smoky two stroke with a four stroke. Considering Mercury 6 hp for about $1800 or a Tohatsu 6 hp for around $1300. I've heard good things about the Mercury, but I dont know much about the Tohatsu and Im wondering why there is such a price difference. Has anyone used a Tohatsu, and if so, how do you like it. Thanks.

Love my Merc.

I can't speak about the Tohatsu, but I love my 5 hp four stroke Mercury! Can't go wrong w/ a Merc.

Tom...............Tohatsu also makes the Nissan outboard that I have (8 HP).......... I have had it for 3 years...... have had zero problems with it. I thought that they also made the Mercury (not sure.... but a call to almost any outboard shop would confirm).For the $500 difference.... I would buy the Tohatsu for sure!

I have a Tohatsu 9.9 4 stroke

Great motor so far - first year owning it. uses about 1/3 gal per hour on a C250K.

Thanks for the response. I was told the Nissan, Tohatsu, and Merc are all made by the same company.With the price difference, I am going with the Tohatsu.
