It's new to me anyway. I just read (Sail mag) about a new ship built on a 1970s German plan known as DynaRig. The Maltese Falcon is a 289ft three masted square rigger (25833 sq ft). Oh, did I mention that the masts are free standing carbon fiber construction? Each mast has 6 curved yards and sail sections that fold into or onto the masts. It looks like something out of a science fiction movie. Lots of automation too. Do you suppose any of the technology will trickle down to boats under 40ft? Would you want it if it did?
