New boat cover ...

I ordered our cover from The Canvas Store at the Annapolis show in October and it was delivered early in November. It was a little confusing to understand exactly how to fit it on the boat at first, but once I got it sorted out it went on very easily ... even in the very cold and brisk wind on that particular day. It had no problem with the wind even without the ties (it was too cold and dark to finish the job) so I came back on a warmer day to tie it down and the fit is nice and snug.

So far it has stood up to a lot of wind and a few good rains with the boat nice and cozy inside. I'm happy with it and I am expecting many years of service. It is nice to access the boat from my ladder at the stern. The reason I chose this cover was that it fitted over the rail without the need for a frame. I considered Fairclough, but the cost was substantially more for the version with the frame. Without the frame, the cost was similar to mine but the coverage was short of the toe rail.

I paid the listed price for a 27' boat minus the standard boat show discount. I made an attempt to negotiate a lower price, but they obviously could tell I was a buyer so I was able to get no further reduction, but I did get assurances that I would have the cover early in November and they delivered. The price was $1,948. They have done so many boats that they are familiar with just about any model. Still, they did make a personal visit to my boat for measurements and the boat yard verified that they came.

The guys at the yard also had a good laugh because apparently they asked about the "tide" at Lake Hopatcong. Every 6 years, the lake is lowered about 5 or 6 feet for dock maintenance contracts and this is the year. The guy form the Canvas Store noted the low water and asked about "tides". Who knows, maybe this was just a story that they made up! Here is what it looks like now, with a little ice around the shallow water.

Hey Scott, we will be in Blairstown over Christmas. Unfortunately we only have a couple of days there that will be taken up with family visits. We also need to visit my family in PA.
