New boat alert: Hunter 40

Attended Annapolis boat show for first time. I was very excited to see the new 40 at the show. As someone who has owned 6 hunters over the past 26 years, and currently live aboard a 456, I just can't help but suggest that this boat does not move the brand forward. The fabric or whatever they were using on the bulkheads and doors, really was a disappointment. Maybe I'm just getting too old and that look appeals to the younger generation, but this was the first time a hunter interior dissapointed me. The countertops looked cheap, some kind of white plastic instead of the corian or simulated granite they have used for years. I liked the blue hull with gold trim but the interior was a huge letdown. Anyone else see the boat and thought it was a improvement or a step backwards?

Ps I do like he chine in the hull.

Specs from Hunter list the coutertops as Corian. I haven't seen them yet, but maybe its the fact they changed from the granite look to solid white that makes it look so different.

while solid white anything may look good in the brochures....

IMHO, except for the hull - it looks awful after a few weeks/months/years IF you actually use the boat, regardless of how careful you are...

as to the sail drive, perhaps they have "fixed" those gasket and other issues, and made a redo on the maintenance...but I am solidly with the camp of KISS, and love the simplicity of the stuffing box over the required haulouts and finding a certified ZF/Yanmar person to check it out, repair or maintain...


YMMV and I guess time will tell how these new advances hold up

Hope they redo the interior, went into the boat at the boat show and was dissapointed with interior , fabric on bulkheads instead of teak, also put the fabric inside door panels, just not a good look from my point of view. I have owned 6 hunters inc my current one. Hope this is not the way of the future for hunter.

Looks like what they did to the interior of the new e36. I wasn't impressed with it either when I checked one out this summer at a local boat show. The H39 had a much better interior IMHO.
