I thought I'd share something that I've been messing around with the past week or so. My wife asked for new binoculars for X-mas so I thought I'd build a new home for them on our boat. We have a mesh bag that is held in place with suction cups inside the companionway that has always held sunglasses, chapstick, sunblock, etc. But the bag/suction cup is less than ideal so I took a look at what was available via West Marine and Defender for holding binos and modified the plan to make what you see in the photos. The rack is made from mahogany and was pretty easy to knock together. This is the upside of winter, I can complete the little projects that I'd never get to if the boat was in the water.

I need to do something like that for shades, binocs, sunscreen, cel phones, handheld VHF, spectacles, keys, horn, knives, bottle openers, cameras etc.

Danny-
Very impressive. We are lucky that Emmanuel has lots of places to store all that stuff, in the cockpit and in the cabin that in the 4years we have been sailing her we have not had to add any additional storage.

Are you heading up to Bayfield any time soon to check on the boat? I am thinking we need to take a run up there next weekend.

Hey Princess, We are heading up to Bayfield for the Book Across the Bay mid Feb. If you're not familiar, it's a 10k X-country ski/ snowshoe race from Ashland across the bay to Washburn. We've rented a house for the weekend and will be checking on boats for friends and ourselves. We moved out of Redcliff to Roy's Point for the coming year. We couldn't take the idea of the new casino on top of us at the Redcliff marina.

Congrats on the move to Roy's Point. It is a lovely marina. I have heard of the Book Across the Bay. Are you participating in the race or just spectating? I am busy the next three weekends and Captain Grumpy is having hand surgery on the 25th and then he'll be in a cast for a few weeks after that so I just don't know when we'll make it back up there. I didn't know they were going to do a new casino. I haven't even been to the old one!

A friend of mine, who lives in Bayfield, just cross country skiid from Bayfield to LaPointe adjacent the ferry route, right along the ice edge. The wake from the ferry made no affect on the ice or his skiing. Somebody took video of it and I am trying to get it on You Tube. Anyway, the ferry is done for the year, the road to Madeline is marked, but only the sled and snow machine vehicles are allowed so far. The Nelson boys have not tried to go with the first car. The casino is under construction, but is a long way off. The Red Cliff marina redo is faze two and a year out. I was just up there for the Bayfield YC midwinter party. Watched the Packer Game there too. Wild time. No body is going sailing there soon.
