I hope someone can help. It was time to change out my batteries today. In my haste to get the work done before dark I switched one of the batteries in my 2 battery system + for - (I know, I know, my wife already reminded me It's a miracle I find my way home every day). Anyway, It's a 2 battery system w/ a selector switch. After getting everything hooked up wrong I realized what I had done & flipped the new battery around. Here's the problem. Everything seems to be working fine EXCEPT the outboard engine. It's equiped w/ a remote electric start. The outboard is a 1999 model Suzuki 9.9 4 stroke. I cannot find a fuse anywhere on the engine or in the remote. Is there something easy I'm missing or did I cause serious dammage?

I think you'll be okay

Unless you tried to start it with the battery wired backwards I think you'll be alright. There should be no electricity going until you push the swtich.I would find out if you have voltage going to the switch first.I would run power directly from the battery to the starter motor on the out board next.

Fuse somewhere on the outboard

A friend of mine did the same thing with his Jap motorcycle and same symtoms,I looked in the manual and found a fuse in the circuit and told him to replace it, he did and that gave the bike life (lights) but no starter circuit. I agree with Timm that you did'nt engauge the circuit so it just might be a fuse, as far as my friend I told him there's another fuse and he's not found it yet.

Outboard battery lead

Check and see if maybe you forgot to hook up a battery lead, on my old Bristol with an outboard there was a seperate battery lead for the outboard motor and it was the negitive wire cause the positive went to the battery switch

Fixed - But A close call

I found a wiring schemetic on line for my outboard showing a 25A fuse on the outboard between the battery & the starter. After about 2 hours in the sun I located the fuse. The fine folks at Suzuki were kind enough to convieniently locate it UNDER the engine. So after spending an hour taking off the solnoid, the starter & labeling & removing most of the wiring it was a 30 second job to replace the fuse. Still it could have been a lot worse (expensive). Thanks to everyone for their help & may you never have to replace a 50 cent fuse on a Suzuki.
