Hello,

Thanks for any help. I just bought a Balboa 26. It has no sails so I need measurements to look for sails. It has no rudder. Any alternative ideas to the stock rudder as I am sure there would be no way to find one....or maybe I could fabricate my own.....thanks for any help. It did come with roller furling.....also I do not know the length of the boom as I will be picking boat up in a few days.....Thanks to all.....seems like a nice boat. Unbelievable...but picked up boat and trailer for under 400 dollars....I just stumbled across her...could not resist! After looking on the net I am quite excited about this boat. I may be able to design a rudder system to be able to steer in more shallow than 30 inches......Mark 1974 model. Ps I should be able to tow her with a dodge 1/2 ton w v8 correct? Sail dimensions are most important for now. Marked77@aol.com

Select "balboa 26" in the New and Used sails search box on upper right hand side of page. Dimensions are luff, leech and foot. Study the information provided on sail measurement etc. to understand it all.

A rudder is one of the most importand parts of any sailboat... they are not just flat boards with a handle. It is a "foil", besides controlling direction it also helps provide lift. Its shape is very important... and they can be pretty expensive, often more valuable as a replacement part... just like a mast... which could be the reason your boat was missing the part in the first place. The rudder on your boat is not simply hung on the transom, like many trailior sailors, so ther may be additional hardware missing... i.e. the rudder stock and the hinged casting that connects the tiller to the stock.... all can be pricey to replicate. Your hope is that the vessel you have acquired has not been used as a "donor" boat... and that no other parts have been scavenged. good luck.

quote=K7KIT;780463]Look on http://www.sailritesails.com/ and scroll to Balboa 26. All of the sail dimentions are listed there assuming your rig is standard.

Rudders, the one place I know of is http://www.idasailor.com/catalog/default.php in Idaho. They manufacture a very nice high tech rudder for the 26, pricey but worth every penny.

Hope this helps![/quote]

rudder

got mine from idasailor not the stock one but the tapered one (the shaft is forward of the center ) its much easier to controll and is very touchy for quick turns but on long tacks even my 10 year old goddaughter can stear without it beinghard on her.
