Yep, new baby it isn't a boat. My daughter was born on July 19th at 9:29am. She weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces and was 20 1/4" long. My wife was a trooper and did a good job.

I have already told my wife that in a few years I intend to get another sailboat. It is only proper that my daughter will learn the ropes and grow up sailing around the Chesapeake Bay. We will see how that goes!

Happy Fathers Day.... You are very fortunate.
Wish your wife our best and a speedy recovery. Sure she is excited and likely just starting on the "Oh my gosh I'm tired" train that comes with a new born.
Treat them like the sugar and spice that they are.
When your daughter gets to be about 15 send me a PM. I'll share my daughter's "boy friend chat" experiences.

Congratulations.
My daughter was born in Hawaii and just 2 days after being born her mom brought her aboard our boat. 2 months later we all sailed from Hawaii for Tahiti.
The first 12 years of her life were spent on various vessels I was captain of, including our circumnavigation under sail. Don't let having a child destroy your dreams. Boat kids become great people.

Really want my daughter to be around sailors and the water. Much better caliber of people on boats. Good point capta

Congratulations! I have only 2 bits of advice for new fathers.
1) Change your baby’s diapers.
2) Pour only as much milk as you’re willing to clean up.
Other than that you’re on your own.

Matt,

Oh boy! Oops...:)

My daughter was born in Tehran, Iran, on Friday the 13th, 1977. We always celebrate Friday the 13ths.

She loves to sail. Too bad I'm here and she's in New York. Maybe she
will visit...

Good luck, friend, you deserve it.

And you're right, GET the sailboat.

PS --- Don't wait that long! :)

Congratulations.
I hope your parents didn't lay the "parent's curse" on you. You know the one, "May you have children just like the child you were." ;)

Anyhow, wonderful years are ahead of you. I knew several children born to live-aboards and they were great kids who grew into great adults. They grow-up with better manners and a more secure sense of community. There is nothing like knowing how to sail to give a kid confidence in life.

Oh... wait, is the naming open? I'm in favor of Genoa (Genny).

:plus:for pictures. I'm surprised it took as many posts as it did for that great suggestion.

Whoa, back this thread into the slip. First of all these old farts can't name a boat let alone a baby girl. Two, no breaking a champagne bottle at the christening. And three, a very brilliant and seasoned sailor, who still remains a humble old salt, says Chessy would be a crackerjack name.
