Like many others, my wife and I were quite taken with the 356. After 21 years on our old boat, we decided it was time for a change, and we just ordered a 356! I'd sure enjoy hearing from new owners for any thoughts on what to expect.

New 356 owner too

Drop me an email at deacm@aol.com. I just bought mine this week and would like to talk to other new owners.

Ours is supposed to be here in the next few weeks. Will take another few weeks to commission and install the equipment. Then it will appear in the Pacific Sail Expo. Don't all you guys track it up to bad! Dan Jonas (S/V Feije)

Sounds like we're all waiting for our ships to come in. It will be fun to hear the first reports. I did find an owner review on one of the other Hunter pages, someone from Australia who really liked his new 356, but whose review was based only on one sail. I sent him an e-mail and will relay his response if I get one. The 356 to me seemed a big step forward from the 34: bigger and better hull design, bigger and better creature comforts. I bet the home equity loan that this is so, but I don't expect to be disappointed. The price was good, too.

Paul, According to the dealer, our boat is done and somewhere in the line to get on the back of a truck. We expect delivery on or before April 2. We have quite a bit of equipment going in once it arrives. Besides the commissioning work the dealer will do which includes a dodger, we are adding an autopilot, radar, color chartplotter, color fishfinder/depth, ST 60 wind, and a second VHF. On the power side we are adding a Group 27 AGM dedicated starter battery and a Pathmaker combiner, as well as a Balmar 100 amp alternator with the three stage regulator. Hopefully this will all be done prior to Pacific Sail Expo, but if not, right after, as the boat will be in the show, unless it falls off the truck or something. We agree regarding the comfort and size. We also responded to the thought that went into the design. We like the central location of most thru-hulls, and that Hunter took the effort to take care of the discharge of the refer drain, shower, floor drain, etc. We also like the fact that the electrical system is better thought out and equipped for more than one night at anchor. The changes we are making are actually fairly minor alterations to a well designed system. If you did want to go cruising later on there is room and provisions for a gen set and ac. We may add a Webasto Heater to it later this year. We like to anchor out in the bay overnight during the week and that gets a little chilly. Other than the show boat, that initiated our purcahse, i have only been on two other 356 Hunters. Having been a Hunter 290 owner for a year, this feels like the boat that was designed by someone who intended to do more than day-sail his boat. Hunter is to be congratulated on this one, and they deserve the orders that are coming in for this boat. I suspect it may be a best seller for them. Dan Jonas (S/V Feije)
