Hello. My wife & I just ordered a new 33 yay! We take delivery next spring(2013). The dealer is very helpful with questions but it's always good to have extra view points:) First, I'm looking at weaver davits to hold a small dingy on the transom. Next, since we don't have a generator the engine heat exchanger will be heating our water, is this suficient? Our future marine has a pump out boat, it arrives after we fly a flag and pumps. I was taught to rinse water back into the tank then repeat the pump, my confidence is low this will happen from pump out boat. Pumping fresh water from my shower thru head enough of a rinse? Can or is there an adapter for cockpit shower so to run a hose to spray directly into tank? I have many more questions but we can start here. Thanks for taking time to read and respond to these.

Ok here is a good suggestion if you can get them to upgrade the tiolet to a raritan II tiolet will be the only tiolet you will ever want and really happy with,I did not think or know when I orded my 07 H-36 to up grade which I did a year later any way and been happy ever since.
A good tank treatment chemical always in the tank,What I did is when ever day sailing or when ever I know we at a dock and have plenty fresh water that is only use for my tiolet,I added a sink srayer from HD or Ace and tell everyone to use that to rinse and have the sink drain pipe go into the raw water intake to rinse the raw water sea water which I do use sea water on our long weekends or long cruises away from a dock fresh water supply.
I am sure you will here from other 33 owners with good tips but give us some info of what equipment you are getting or any upgrades for more tips.

RuddyDuck,

Congrats and welcome to the Hunter family. You and your wife are very patient people but I believe you will be well rewarded. From purchase to taking delivery was 5 weeks and that seemed like a long time to us, especially during sailing season.
Ask question and you will receive answers. You then will have to make the decisions as to what is best for you and your boat.
For now I tow my Walker Bay 270AF (8’ 10”) inflatable dinghy when sailing for more than a day sail and put it on the fore deck when alongside our home marina. However, I am seriously considering the Weaver snap davits that should fit nicely on the stern. I still have to determine at what angle of heel there will be problems if any. I will say the swim platform makes entering and exiting the dinghy a breeze. Also negates the requirement for an outboard lifting davit, if you select a light enough outboard for your tender.
There are many schools of thought as to heating hot water (or charging batteries) with the diesel. If you are motoring then certainly this is beneficial byproduct of engine heat. The water tank will hold its heat for quite a long time after being heated by the engine. If you want hot water at anchor or mooring buoy then running the diesel for that alone is not a long term solution. A solar shower for less than $30 will buy you some warm water. Boiling on the propane stove is another option. I have a hydronic Espar heating system that gives both cabin heat and provides hot water when needed. It runs off of the boat’s fuel tank and uses about a 1 pint/hour and about 4 amps at the high setting and half that on low setting.
See Peggy Hall’s post regarding heads. All I can add from a Hunter (e)33 perspective is that the deck fill for the waste pump out is a fair distance away from the cockpit shower hose. If alongside certainly flush with a dedicated water hose from a shore bib. Lots of folk on this forum do use the faucet shower to add fresh water to the head. I have not had any issues in the past if I do not use sea water in and around marinas and do pump out and flush the head/holding tank with fresh water if the boat/head is to remain unused for more than several days. I do use odorlos holding tank treatment.

Welcome and congrats!

I took delivery of my e33 this past January and have put considerable miles on it so far; certainly have had my share of issues as well. It's a great boat and for the mission, it's just about as good as you'd want.

Let me preface, i apologize to the fellow e33 owners for speaking out so harshly. Maybe some of you agree with me, most people hate hunters, maybe im just crazy, or maybe there really is something to the phrase you get what you paid for. Either way, i dont mean to hate, just trying to help others not make my same mistakes. I appreciate all the hunter owners helping me work through my boats kinks!

Not sure if it's your first hunter, first boat or your experience level, but in my opinion, This has taken the cake for worst boat buying experience to date. If you've got patience to work out the kinks, handle issues on your own, expect no customer service and really really want to be on the water, it'll be worth it. Sorry for coming off strongly, but take a peek at my profile and posts over the last few months, every issue, frustration and rant is well documented. If you have a great dealership, it may just make the process a whole lot better. While I can't say that I wouldn't have these problems with another brand, I do have the feeling that non bankrupt companies might be more inclined to help out customers.

Just my thoughts on the situation; will definitely be my last hunter for sure though..

Feel free to message me if I can help ya work through any of it.

Gregg,

By the time you're done, you'll have the BEST. :)

It's hard to tell whether your issues are from your own time constraints or buffoonery from the dealer. Although it would be hard to not to expect anew boat owner wanting to actually, uhm, sail his new boat!

You have, however, documented things to answer the OP questions.

Good luck to you all.

Sorry to hear about your problems with your new boat and I am sure we all would be unhappy if our new boat were to be anything but a good experience for sure and hey that's why we buy so less problems.
Lets face once in aa while new owners seem to have a problem with thier new boat and think it always seems to be dealer related but Hunter usually comes to the plate and things get better and with the change in owners at Hunter maybe a few more bumps ddiidd happen but hang in and just get your dealer to make things right and get Hunter to help pressure the dealer to make things the way new ownership should be.
I have owned 2 Hunters and 2 different dealers and can say the dealer and Hunter always made me a happy owner and my new 07 Hunter that my wife and I ordered new is the best and my dealer did make the difference for sure and never needed to contact Hunter with any problems,my minor things were dealt with by the dealer and we were aand still are very happy.

Thanks for the kind words. My dealer for all intents and purposes ignores all contact with me. Hunter is and has been aware since day one and has neither offered any assistance nor compensation for any of the dealers wrongdoings or warranty issues they are responsible for. I wish I could share your faith that people will do the right thing but realistically that's unfortunately not the case with this brand.

It may sound like I'm screaming from the hilltops with my story, because I am. This is outrageous business, and in my opinion (my attorneys too) this is well beyond the scope of lawful practices. I am aware of multiple proceedings with my dealership from other owners for unlawful trade practices, hunter is aware and continues to employ their services.

I do not see them making things right here, perhaps if I continue my quest to tell all about my experience they may decide to answer some of my emails or calls.

2001

back in 2001 I purchased my first Hunter 290 and did not get it at my LI,NY dealer because of very bad complaints here on this forum, well he found out long story how but he called the woman dealer and very nasty used words should not ever use with any body no less a woman, she called me crying so upset and I went paid him a visit and gave it back like he was shaking after I gave him hell and being extrucker let him have it and told he had a bad rep and I called hunter and they called him and gave him hell for his very bad rep for Hunter owners and so he called me back and said he was so sorry and if I ever needed anything he would do it free but I never did and got my new H-36 in Ct.
Alll I am saying I am sure it's not easy to run a manufactoring company and dealing with all the dealers,I have been on this forum since about 2000 and never heard of bad things about your dealer but maybe he is new,I think my ct dealer is no long in business due to the slow down of the economy I guess.
Hope things work out for you and get to enjoy your Hunter like most of us do

Breaking news! We have decided to upgrade to the Hunter 36 just two days after ordering the 33. The dealer is being very helpful with the transition of course. The deal breaker was a generator for us. We have the same delivery time line so all is well. Guess I will need to change my profile now, which is not a bad thing.

Great News

Wow lucky you and very smart thing to do and you will love the bigger boat for sure, what did you order for equipment and are you getting the 4200 Panda as that is what I have.
Back in 2006 I was shopping for a bigger than our 2001 290 and so decided on a dealer used Hunter 33 for my retirement and movving to Florida, took the wife to the boat show at newport to show the 33 and after looking around at all the other boats and the 33 with the sales guy next to us she says to me No No No No if you want a new boat you need to get the 36 not that 33,you always wanted the 356/36 and that is what we are getting and started telling all the things like AC full electronics and Gen/inverter,inmast,chartplotter aand alot more.
You will love the extra room and storage of the 36 over the 33,wha are you adding.

Good call getting the extra room. But get a different boat from another brand. Spend your money wisely and take it from someone who literally just paid for it. All in all, after the work I've done out of pocket due to my dealer and hunter not servicing a new boat, I could've had a new island packet estero.

Gregg, honest man I can't believe the problems that you have experienced with your new Hunter over the past 9 months. This being your first sailboat ever must make it doubly hard. I empathize with you 100%. You have the patience of Job. I would have thrown the towel in a long time ago or at least had someone by the throat. I know it is not like taking your new car to a different dealer 10 miles down the road, but have you considered using another dealer to fix what the 1st has buggered up? My dealer (Specialty Yacht Sales) is 40 nm away on the mainland. As we live on an island, it is literally a 2 day trip to deliver the boat and return home (via city bus, ferry and then car), have the boat serviced and then another 2 day trip to retrieve it. But I wouldn’t trade our dealer for anything. I have had nothing but great service and support from the dealer, his service manager and Hunter in general. There have been some minor issues with the boat (far fewer than I expected) but in every case the dealership has gone way beyond my expectations. I would recommend him in a heartbeat and I have to the many folks that I have given a tour to since we took delivery 3 months ago. The boat itself is everything I hoped for and more. I am very proud of it and I am not a man that is easily pleased, believe me. It sails like a dream and has way more creature comforts than a sailboat needs. We have enjoyed over 50 days away from our home marina and we have well over 1,000 nm in combined sailing and motoring since we took delivery. We have immensely enjoyed every moment. I honestly hope you and Hunter get things sorted out.

Thanks for the words and i appreciate your understanding. Yes i have absolutely considered and spoke to other hunter dealers in the vicinity. Unfortunately hunter marine will not compensate them for work so it will be entirely out of pocket. So I'm in-between a rock and a hard place on that one. What's most troublesome is I cannot for the life of me get in touch with anyone at hunter to discuss any of this; emails, calls, etc. have all been blatantly ignored by both the dealership and hunter. With my boats condition and the business in its state, seemed like an easy out for them to just throw me and my issues under the rug.

I was just about to welcome you into the e33 family...but I guess you're really going to like your 36.

We got caught in the Hunter take-over situation. We ordered our boat in January, expected delivery in May....finally arrived mid July. After having it around the dealers marina for a month, dealing with minor issues, we cross lake Ontario to bring her home.

We are "pretty much" first time sailors and first time boat owners. The expirence was scary at first, but we are now starting to get the thrill of it.

Happy Sailing

Adding the generator along with extra room was the driving factor for the 36. We have been at the Newport Boat show going over options. The tv/dvd play come with built in inverters, should I order the inverter for the boat or just run the genertor for outlet use?

RuddyDuck, to get a more complete answer, you may want to post your question to a more general forum than this one. Good luck with your new Hunter. I think you will thoroughly enjoy it. I am certainly pleased with ours.
