but, according to my GPS I hit a steady 7.2 kts heading home on Sat. previously 6.7-6.8 was about tops. must have been one of those days that every thing was just "right with the world".
Hi Dan -Congrats on everything coming together while out sailing this weekend. I'll bet you are in a much better mood this Monday than usual. Three things come to mind as to why your boatspeed was unusually high on the GPS reading:1) Your sail trim was optimised for the conditions2) The current was running with you3) Your GPS was inadvertently set to "statute miles" instead of "nautical miles" - this happened to me delivering a boat and we thought the knotmeter was reading slow until we discovered the GPS settingIn any case, you enjoyed a good run!Have a great week!Trevor
I've had my C30 reading 11 knots on the GPS coming thru inlets. Your true hull speed will be recorded on the knot meter (if your boat has one). The GPS measures your speed over ground (as oppsed to thru the water), so if your sailing along with a 3 knot current, it will be included along with hull speed as a final reading. I like to use both on my boat. This way I always know how fast the current (if any) is flowing.
it was #1 Trevor, LOL and thanks. my GPS is most certainly set for kts not mph. I was also traveling along Big Sabine, so probally not much if any current. Gaspare, no I dont have a knot meter. speed over gound if I understand the difference correctly is what matters when determining when you are going to get there.
