just bought a long neglected 67 chris craft, that was on the hard for a number of years. it has 2 thru hulls, one for the head & one for grey water at the sink. the t/h at the head. has a removable handle and doesn't turn, so i don't know if its open or close (still on hard). do i bite the bullet and take it apart and risk breaking the thru hull/hull seal?
also do i replace the hose to the head, even though i don't plan on using it this season?

Not knowing exactly how your piping is laid out, I can't offer great advice. But I can offer lousy advice. :)

I would at the very least replace the hose. This would/should allow you to look into the thru hull and see it's position. Once you remove the hose, it will not in all likelihood be usable so replace it.

When I bought my boat, the discharge thru hull was frozen open and was so stated in the survey. I tapped the stem with a hammer several times before it started to move. I kept tapping on and turning the valve until it worked fully. It was still stiff to operate.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I was TAPPING the stem head, not whaling away at it because my thru hull fitting is a 90 degree fitting and I definitely did not want to break it while in the water.

Hopefully, someone who also has/had a Chris Craft 26 will give you better advice on this.

thanks for the advice. i was able to take the valve apart and i'll replace the hose tomorrow. the valve was open. the system starts with a 3/4" hose from the valve to the head. and from the head to the small holding tank (looks like a 5 gal. plastic). the boat has no deck plate or drain hose. apparently back in the day you took the tank out and disposed of it. this system has quickly moved up the list of must do tasks.
