Needs a drain?

Have a 1994 H29.5There is an area where both transducers come through the floor in front of the keel. Access panel is under the seat. Both transducers leak just a bit. Not so much to worry about now. We could smell a little mold so we found this was the source. Here's the problem. There is no drain from these two compartments to a bilge anywhere. We had to pump it out and then into the bilge. This could be a potentially bad problem if they ever fail to keep their seal. Now, is this a design problem, should there be a hole there? Should we drill a hole there. Our dealer knew of this during the inspection. They didn't tell us there was no drain. It would eventually fill up go over the bulk head and then into the bilge, but there would be almost a foot of water in the bow before it could climb over the bulk head. What should we do?Thanks!

Bryan A leak at ANY through hull (other than the stuffing box,I am told) should be taken seriously. Remove both and reinstall them correctly since they obviously weren't installed correctly in the first place!DJ

same situation on my 29.5 -- but water is from freshwater system -- it gets there if it leaks or when I drain it (if not careful) and possible rain water from a deck leak - open hatch too.I am considering drilling a limber hole to allow it to drain into the bilgeBill MurrayGood Faithh29.5 #175

Water heater?

On our 29.5 I found that the hot water heater pressure relief valve (PRV) was leaking, but only whenthe water heated up. Since the heater is located in the same compartment under the forward berth,it would leak into the area where the transducer thur hull fitting is. I replaced the PRV but it still leaked. What I did was to run a 3/8 tube from the PRV to the fresh water tank located just on the other side of the bulkhead forward of the hot water heater. I drilled a hole in the top of the tank, threaded a barbed fitting into it and pushed the hose onto the barb. Now, when the PRV bleeds off some water it just goes back to the tank. Worked great, no more water in that area.

29.5 transducer leak

contacted Hunter Tech. They stated it was a design flaw and if able we should drill a hole to the bilge. Making sure epoxy was completely around the new drilled holes. A customer service rep suggested to install a bilge pump into that area. Drilling would be easier.
