Hi Everyone- We are in the market for a V32 here in California and have located one we like very much. However, it appears that the stock helmsman's seat has gone missing! Based on what I read in this forum, I called Hunter parts and learned that the mold for the seat is no longer available. Any suggestions? Does anyone have one to sell? Has anyone replaced it with a better or cooler custom solution? Do y'all just stand behind the wheel and never sit? Thanks!

Well, you could borrow one for a mold...
..and have a local person make one from it. BTW, the stock one, at least the one I had, had wood mouldings on the hump. FWIW, I'd pass on them. You could post here for someone to lend you one for the mold. Alternatively, you could make a pretty nice one out of teak planking if you wanted to be oh-so-cool. I don't think it would be at all difficult, but maybe time consuming. Good luck. Great boat. Rick D.

I have an extra one for a 30T. There is a Vision at the marina and I will check this weekend to see if they are the same. I also have a helmseat mounted on the factory seat (not the extra one though) and it works great.

Mold would work.
The mold idea is a good one. It shouldn't be hard to make. The factory seat has a hump in it that is good for raising short sailors (such as myself) up to see forward better. Mine has the teak slats on the seat portion. Looks good when it is finished. I keep the sun off of it by putting a throw rug over the teak when not in use. Either way (slats or no slats) it should be easy to do. The seat also has a nice cut-out so you can hang the seat on the safety lines when your swimming off the back. Let me know if you have any trouble getting a mold closer to you. I could check with some people here in Jacksonville that could do it and let you know the costs. Great suggestions for a new seat!
You all are right on the mark! I'd thought of similar things and am seriously considering the "make my own" plan. -If an actual seat turns up, or a substitute, that could be the best & easiest (short amount of time, most money) -The broker is still trying to see if the owner has the seat "somewhere". Thanks a heap!

I think the seat for our 89 V32 is in our attic.. we removed the seat from the boat to get more cockpit room. Only stand behind the wheel in bad weather..usually we're on the side seat when healed, heck-usually we're on the side seat in the shade while the autopilot steers..

Hey Howard- I take your point about not sitting behind the wheel much, but my co-conspiritor insists that the boat needs a seat to be whole. Any thought to have more room in your attic and more money in your bank account? (This is not an offer to buy, as the language goes, but just to test the waters. The broker is still trying to get a firm reply from the out of state owner!)

V32 helmsman seat
If you end up making a seat, consider hinging it on one side with a slip-out hinge pin so it can be removed but can also be lifted on the hinge for quick access. I put a piece of nylon net between the rear of the seat and the deck to keep cockpit clutter from getting launched.
