Along those lines. Thinking of wiring a bobby trap 12v horn to the motor. If moved, all hell breaks loose. Bet it would work.

Better yet, find a storage yard with a mean junk yard guard dog. One customer did and the would be thief had his butt chewed off and is sitting in jail.

I dunno. Junk yard dogs are not very discerning as to whose butt they chew off.

Several years ago we had our outboard stolen from our h23 sitting in the slip . They went thru the entire marina stealing small outboards . There was a man in his 80s who had a smaller boat with an older outboard .This outboard was ancient and he had it well secured to the boat via the motormount . They unbolted the motor mount leaving him not only minus an outboard but a motor mount also . Insuarnce is the best form of protection from thieves . Other than the inconveience of having the motor stolen I made out ok and ended up with a new outboard . If a thief wants something bad enough its gone . While in the service over seas I witnessed ten year old boys climbing over ten foot chain link fences stealing windshields out of jeeps and back out the way they came in .

hmmm, this is not what I wanted to read...

My plan was to put the boat in a berth. Thought pulling off a 100lb motor from a boat in the water would be tougher. My Honda motors were 30lbs so easily walked away with. Maybe the solution is to get out of urban centers.... Maybe.

The best locks available are good enough to keep the honest people out.

lol, I like that.

Too true. My daughter went to UCSanta Barbara. Bicycle theft capital. Was told kids go to HomeDepot and buy an $80 grinder. Will cut any lock in a few minutes. After the days take, they return the grinder to HomeDepot for full refund.

You could ask if there were any bolts once put on could never come off that could be put on the motor and motor bracket but then it would be heck to take off. Sadly there is no fool proof way to prevent theft. In my case, I do not have to worry but if anyone ever breaks into my home, well lets just say I have a 45 with hollow points on my nightstand.
