I need to pull the mast on my Hunter Vision 32, 1990. Has any one done it? What is the weight and how do you do it? Also what is the bridge clearance of this boat? What is the length of the mast after it is pulled? Thanks for any help.

Pulling a mast is pulling a mast.

If it is keel stepped you must hoist it clear of the deck and then lay it down. If it is deck stepped then it is simply a matter of controlling it as you lay it down. For keel stepped masts you can rent a man lift for about 250 per day and place a strap on the mast a little above the half way point, take a light strain on it and loosen all of the shrouds and stays and hoist it out. With a deck stepped mast it is the same operation but you don't have the need to pull it out of the partners.

DYI?

Are you thinking of doing this yourself? This is a keel - stepped mast. You can measure it by pulling a tape to the masthead. I get the idea this isn't your boat yet??? Please clarify. RD

More info.

Yes the boat is mine,I had hoped to move it from the Gulf to Guntersville Lake by the Tombigbee but the bridge height is only 52. So now I want to get it to Mobile and then move it by trailer to Guntersville Lake. I do have a mover but I would like to know these things ahead of time so I can inform him and to know myself. I may have to haul the mast myself on my tailer. Just in the planning stage. I do not like to go into things blind. I plan on talking to a marina in Mobile on Monday and see if they have done one. I would do the prep work myself. Thanks,JT

Mast R&R

Well, JFT, I had one for nine years but never had to R&R the mast. It looks easy enough: remove the collar and boom, disconnect the electrical and unbolt the mast from the mast step. I was just looking at the spec's and it says the mast is 53', but that's from the water line. So, adding a couple of feet is probably safe since I think the mast step is a bit below the water line if I recall correctly. I wouldn't attempt this on a DYI basis, but your appetite may be better than mine. Of course, you will want to see that the transporter takes extra good care to support and protect it, given how difficult and expensive a replacement would be. Best of luck... great boat. Rick D.

very heavy.

I do not think that you want to think about doing this yourself. Our mast on the Hunter Vision 36 weighs in at over 800 lbs. I would think that this one would be between 500-600 lbs. You are going to wait a long time to get another one of these made.

Thanks

This is the info I was looking for. I can tell the guys at the marina what we have. One thought a boom truck could do it ?? The marina will know what they can lift. My trailer can handle the weight and length. The guy doing the boat haul can handle the boat but I do not think the length of the mast. Well I now know what I have to face. I love this boat but that mast height is a pain on inland waters. Oh well once it is at the lake it will be fine. But will limit where I can go. But this lake is 4 times bigger then my old lake up north. And that took years to explore. Thanks again. JT
