Does anyone know the size of boots for the end of spreaders on a 1978 Hunter 30'. Also, is there a good procedure on how to do it?

proceedure

1. Find someone really tiny, maybe 5'3" and 110 pounds. Experience dictates that blonds seem lighter than brunettes when going up the mast. 2. Ply her with drink, and then ask whether she wants to go for a little ride. 3. Strap her into the bosun's chair, and equip her with tie wraps, diagonal cutters and riggers tape. 4. Hoist away at the spinnaker halyard, unless of course you've affixed the chair to something else. While grinding, avoid the tendency to say, "You're heavier than I thought you'd be." It also helps not to grunt too often. 5. Cease hoisting once your "rigger" is at spreader height, and wait patiently for her to stop screaming. Then explain that the tie wraps go on first, and that they should be covered in riggers tape so that the ends won't snag the sails. 6. Lower away once she's completed her task, and the moment she's once again on terra firma, take her out for a lobster dinner.... That's the way I do it, anyway.

cheap spreader boots

Bob, We replaced all of the spreader boots on our hunter 31' for free (kinda). You can too. Remove one of the boots and take it with you to a K-mart or a wal-mart or anyplace that has a large selection of hair shampoo. Many of the shampoos will come in a container with one end that is nearly identical to your spreader boot. Buy the shampoo, go home and pour the shampoo into different container. Then cut and fit the empty container to match your old boot. We did this and the match was perfect. The only true cost was time and spreader tape.
