I'm already gearing up for a big refit on my Oday 23 which will be ready for the water next year. Need advice though. In spring 2006,I want to install a stern rail on my Oday 23', the stern has an outboard access cutout on the port side. Anyone have any ideas or recommendations on stern rails for my 1972 Oday 23? My main concern is that there is no where to mount a pulpit bases vs the two I could put near the toe rails but no place to mount bases on the stern. Tubing size suggestions? My ultimate goal would be to extend the lifelines all the way around the boat and add safety netting. But stern rail suggestions/tips would be great.

Mark when I was shopping for a O23 I thought I wanted stern rails. But after looking at one I decided that they would be in the way dealing with the O/B. IMHO. Later Ed

what I did.
My first boat, a Challenger 23, came without a stern rail. The life lines simply sloped down to a fitting at the outside of the stern. For many reasons I wanted a stern rail so I shopped around the internet and found a guy in Port Huron Michigan who would custom build one complete with bases, fittings and welded construction. All I did was make a paper template out of several pieces of large drawing paper which gave the base shape and size, I then indicated how high it should be and the slope of the deck angles for welding the base to the stantions. He welded loops on for pelican hook attachments and I installed it in an afternoon. I gotta believe there is someone in your area who makes these things. I don't remember the diameter of the tube stock. I made it the same height as the bow rail and the stantions along the toe rail. Also I drove over to his shop to pick it up.
