I found a solution to lack of shelving and quick access storage. I walked through Wal Mart and found shower caddies (to fold shampoo etc) that had 2 and 3 suction caps onthe back. They stick to the interior bulkheads and are perfect for handheld vhf's, GRS, charts and tide tables. They are made in white and clear plastic and have drainage holes so they work inthe wettest of cockpits. The neat part is that they only cost $3 to $5. The smaller ones fit perfect above the back of the interior bench seats. And, I didn't have to drill any holes. Hayden

Oops, they're gone again...

Great idea Hayden, but you may want to put a little dab of adhesive on the suction cups. We have found that they tend to pop loose from the bulkheads when the cabin heats up.

Used suction cups for years

I have used the baskets for years. I also got the suctions cups that click over when you pull the hook down. They come in a box of about ten different sizes. I have bags hung all over, flag is hung on them when below, made a chart holder out of canvas put grommets in the top and these suction cups hold it just fine. I have also put up a net bag for fresh fruit and other foods when out for extended periods

What am I doing wrong?

I love the suction cup items you mentioned, but mine seem to pop off within minutes of placement no matter how I try to put them on: moisten the cup first, etc. I figured the finish on my gelcoat was bad or something. Please give me a clue - I have a herd of unused hooks!!

Suction Cup Woes

I tried the various attachments (i.e. cupholders) with the suction cups, and I had the same experience - they held for a few minutes, then let go. I tried cleaning the suction cups, cleaning the surface that I wanted to attach to, and still no luck. Now, they sit in a box of unused stuff. Any suggestions to improve my batting average?

To Mara and Bruce

I have a Hunter 235. I sit the holders atop the back of the galley seats (that way the weight is taken by the seat and suction cup it to the bulkhead to keep it from falling over. I put them up two weeks ago and none have let go as yet. Some one mentioned putting adhesive on the cup before attaching it to the gel coat. Don't know what kind of adhesive though. THe key is to have the weight held by someting else and the suction cup acts to hold things in place. Hayden
