Shipmates, I just bought a 1985 Hunter 23 with some rubrail damage. Any hints on a source, or more importantly model/part number for our rubrails? I have gone to a few sites that carry them, but they list a huge variety of size and shape. Thanks, Tate Westbrook

Parts for H23

Hi Tate - since you didn't get any suggestions otherwise, try Hunter's customer service. If they don't have replacements, they should be able to recommend someone who does.

Rub rail for Hunter 23

Tate, I have a Hunter 23 '86. I replaced the original rub rail with a Taco single piece rub rail. I bought it at Boatersworld.com. I had to buy 2 thirty foot sections to encompass the entire length of the boat. It is called a universal semi - rigid Vinyl rub rail kit. Part number 329511059. Ended up being about $200 total. You need two people, a hair dryer (for bends), a cordless power screw driver, some sealent, and a cordless drill. The kit came with fasteners, instructions, and a counter sink bit for the drill if needed. One kit was older and did not have pre-drilled holes. To be clear, this is not an exact match to the original rub rail. If you are not planning on replacing the entire thing, you might consider a different option. I can try to take some digital pictures of my end result if you are interested. Whole job took about 5 hours (on a trailer not in the water). Matt Piercy

Rub rail

I replaced the ridgid plastic rub rail retainer with a Taco product #V21-9678WHA20D. I special ordered 3 20' sections from West Marine. West Marine's model # 6484182. I had to pay for motor freight shipping to get 20'pieces, otherwise 8' is max and you must by 20' and pay to have it cut. The black rubber insert went into this retainer without a problem.
