need some roller furler advice

HELP!!! This winter I sent my 150 Genoa to the sail maker for some love. He washed it up put on some new telltales and a nice new sunbrella UV cover. I went down to put it on today and hoisted her up. Everything looked great until I furled it in and the UV cover was on the wrong side!! . I know it’s an easy fix and that I just need to wind the furling line the opposite way but I’m unsure how to do it. Right now it is furled in completely only in the opposite direction it’s supposed to be. All the line is payed out. Can I just undo the stopper knot that connects the line to the drum, then pull out the Genoa all the way, roll it up tightly the correct way, then reconnect the furling line to the drum? The next time the sail opens it should in theory furl the line in correctly or am I missing something? Is that the easiest way to do it?

As you furl out your sail the drum rope will be taken up in whichever opposite direction your sail unfurl or you could take it back to the shop to redo the cover.

the easiest way to solve your problem is to unfurl the sail all the way out and reload the furler line on the drum in the opposit direction but it may not track correctly based on how you have it rigged to the cockpit.....if you dont want to take it back the sail shop thats about it ....the sail shop must have been haveing a bad day....hope this helps...

correction furl the sail all the way in and then unload your furler line and re load it the oppiset way......

Captain, IF you can get to the stopper knot easilly then you are correct. Just allow for a couple of wraps for the sheets. We were out yesterday in 35 mph winds and the furler wound the sail tighter than ever a I ended up a couple of wraps short.
the wind thrashed the old rotten sail cover and I need to have mine recovered. What did they charge you and who did the work? Timo42 has offered his zig zag industrial machine and I may do it myself.

Thanks guys. I can get to the stopper knot easy enough and I don't think it will be an issue on how it's run back to the cockpit. I just have a series of small blocks clipped onto my pulpit and stantions. I'll see tomorrow when I get back down there after work. Hopefully it's an easy fix. I'll bring a helper to hold some tension on the sheets when I hand roll it back up

Oh and Caguy I had it done locally here on Long Island by a company called Sailors Choice. They were really good guys and as far as I can see the work is top notch. I had them wash both the genoa and the main, fix a small tear in the clew of the genoa, new batten pockets on the main, new tell tales on both the UV cover and restitch my mainsail cover all for about $500. Not too bad and my sails look brand new.

Sailmaker should have asked which direction you furl. Sloppy mistake.

No it wasn't the sailmakers fault it was the POs lol. The sail had an old white UV cover and the sailmaker put the new one on the same side. I talked to the previous owner last night and he apparently rewound the furler the wrong way after servicing the drum last year. I have only had this boat since August of last year and never noticed the old white UV cover. The sailmaker was very knowledgeable and even offered to come help me rewind the drum. No harm no foul.

I'm curious- are all jib sun covers on the same side? Mine is on the starboard side.

Depends on which way you choose to turn your furling drum when you first run the lines.
