to the best of my knowledge there are no sail lofts in Manhattan. However, if you take the subway and bus to, or cab to City Island (the Bronx) there are two sail lofts. Doyle/Hild (Island Nautical) on Fordham Street and UK on City Island Avenue. Good luck, both do quality work.
i live near 79th street, moor at city island, and know of no sail lofts in between. i've only dealt with doyle and have no reason to look elswhere. i'd call ahead and see what arrangements can be made, it's a schlep as we say on the west side; in toronto they might say it's halfway across the city.
now that i think of it, if you're coming south, you want to stop way before 79th st to get to city island. i know there's a dyckman st. marina near the wahsington bridge, but all i know is that it's there.
Having lived aboard at 79th while working at City Island, I can tell you its not a trip to underestimate. I can't picture sitting with a sail on the M79, then somthing like twenty stops on the six train, then another bus ride on the Bx29. And make sure its a City Island 29 or you will end up in Co-op city. Good luck.
