You can try to have the computer simulate an older version of Windows while running that program. Click on start, and find the program, right click and select "properties". There should be a tab called "compatability" in there you can tell it to runs as Windows '95, etc. Reduced screeen resolution might help also. You could try to Google the program name and any error or description like "doesn't run on Windows 7" and you might find an update. Unfortuantely, all of those little programs that run graphics like DirectX are not very good at being backwards compatable.
