Where can I get price information on Catalina 250 optional equipment ? Specifically what are the new costs for the pedestal steering option, inboard diesel engine, 135% genoa headsail, and marine head options ? How much do these options add to the resale value of a 10 year old Catalina 250 wing keel boat ?

Cost Data

I believe that getting the price the dealers charge is rather difficult. That said, try the St Louis Sailing web site (http://www.stlouissailing.com/). Under their build a boat option you can get pricing for the various options.

The Yanmar saildrive is not among the options listed on the web site. Since it a "special order" installation on new boats you need to work through your dealer. Retrofit of a saildrive on a wing keel is possible, but again you will most likely need to work the purchase and instalation through the maintenance facility doing the job.

I do have the saildrive option on my 250, it was on the order of 12k

If you REALLY don't like smaller boats, or don't plan on keeping your 250 for a long while, I think you will probably be unhappy since you probably are not going to recover the expenditure. On the other hand, if the 250 is going to suit you for any considerable period of time, and you realize you will most likely NOT recover the cost, it is a nice option to have

Not sure what you're asking

Are you wanting to know, as Mark has suggested, what these would cost to retrofit an older boat or are you looking to purchase a new one with these options and keep it 10 years and then sell it or, are you looking to purchase a 10 year old boat that has these options and trying to justify the price? Whew! Long question. I don't think you'll find an inboard diesel but, I might be wrong. Most have an outboard hanging on the transom. But, as Mark said, a Saildrive is an option. Is yours diesel Mark? I don't think the 135% genoa will make much of a price difference if you're buying new and want it in place of the standard 110%. Catalina makes their own sails by the way. I just bought a 135% for my 250 this season and it cost about $700 from National Sail in Florida. I don't know the price difference for a wheel version. I prefer a tiller on a boat this size but, there are many that like the wheel. Somebody on the Catalina 25/250/Capri Association just bought a new 250 and might be able to answer some of these questions for you.

Good website reference

Thanks Mark, I didn't realize the diesel option was that expensive. Now I understand why it it rare to find a used Cat 250 with a diesel. The website you provided is just the ticket. It gives me some basis for comparing differently equipped Cat 250's. I am shopping for a boat about 10 years old and not more than 500 miles from Columbia, SC.
