Hello All, I am looking for links to photos of companionway drop boards. I am in the process of making ne wones for my C25 and I'm looking for ideas. I have the old original ones, but I'm just looking for different ideas. If you have a link to your drop boards would you mind posting it here for me to admire? Many Thanks, Dan

I'd suggest you look at the lexan drop board shown on Larry and Lin Pardy's site. See below. http://www.landlpardey.com/Tips/Tips_2005_December.htl I've just gotten some cut to order polycarbonate pieces to use when I want to block the wind but not lose sunlight. I expect to use the drop board piece most often. Can't get to the boat to try it out this weekend, Long Beach Grand Prix is between me and the marina . . .

I agree with Dixon,

Doors live on hinges, boards wander around. I have a companion door and I can close the boat and lock it in about ten seconds. It takes almost that long to open it.

We live aboard and the only time we use the drop boards is when a hurricane is comming. Other than that, doors are far more convenient. Drop boards are just that..DROP boards. They break toes and chip gelcoat and always seem to be in the way of something. When you want to remove the doors, they lift right out of the hinge pin.

No Thank You

I do not want a set of doors that bang shut with every roll of the boat. No Thank You. Dan

Wrong Impression

The doors I build are fitted with detachable hinges and latches (for the open position)which means "they don't bang around". I have a set on my 37' and love them.

They would have latches of course.

. No one would want doors that bang around swinging loosely. They have latches that hold them closed and either latches or bungees that would hold them open. Most of the ones on the link I sent have hinges attached to an outer frame so that the hole assemblely is removed as if it were a single drop board. When the boat is not being cruised, the doors can be removed to protect the windows and woodwork from the sun and are replaced with the three solid boards.
