Arrgh! Ahoy there! I kidnapped some old salts and under threat of keel haulin' I forced them to sail me vessel and give me the low down on her sails. (Enough of that, Talk like a Pirate Day is almost over). I have been trying to figure out why I am not able to get my sail shape quite right. These guys have been sailing and racing longer than I have been alive, and spent several hours sailing with me tweaking the sails and rigging. The verdict: my sails suck. I am not sure how old they are, but it is possible they are original to the boat. They have been reconditioned, but they just do not hold there shape. The PO even had a 10 degree wedge cut off the bottom of the main to allow more headroom in the cockpit. The end result is that the leech of the main ends up being too tight, and if I use the topping lift to loosen the leech, the draft of the sail ends up too deep. Anyway, I need new sails. I plan on racing with the local club, and they only allow Dacron sails. I am looking for suggestions from those of you who have recently purchased new sails. Is there anybody that has had success racing their h23 with certain sails?
Thanks,
Chris
