I need to replace my originial main sheet line on my 1997 Hunter P 42. Does anyone have the specifications? I've looked for the manual online but cannot find it.

I found this on the internet for the P42 but it looks long to me. Can anyone comfirm these numbers?
Thanks.

Don't you have the mainsheet on your boat?
Why not do a quick measurement of the sheet?

I know that if I extend my left arm, from my left wrist to my right shoulder, it is about 3 feet.
It takes me less than 3 minutes to run the sheet and get a pretty good measurement, just like the sailors from the 1800s. Then, if I have too much line in the cockpit underfoot, I order a little less. I don't need to consult a manual to get the number.
Man, I sure wish rocket science was this easy.

Double the "P" dimension (mainsail hoist) and add remaining distance to winch/cleat plus and extra 6 feet for tail.

I'm away from the boat for a while. I'll see it again Dec. 7.

Mainsheets use a lot of line. The line has to reach the boom when it is fully extended and then run through multiple blocks. With a 4:1 purchase 69' of line will allow for about 17' of distance from the traveller to the boom, that doesn't seem unreasonable for a 42' boat. Best bet though, is to measure what you have and go with that number.
