Need Mast for Javelin

Hi, I am in serious need of a used mast for a 1973 O'day Javelin. The current mast snapped at the spreaders and I would prefer to find a used spar from a boat that is out of comission. I am located on the east coast. Thanks

D & R Marine?

I think that Rudy at D&R Marine might have a used Javelin Mast. But the shipping from Massachusetts might make it almost as much as a new mast made locally. (508) 644-3001 If you can't locate a used mast locally, a local sparmaker should be able to insert a splice into the mast to repair the break.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I should also mention the Javelin in question is one that I am considering buying because it is being offered at a good price because the mast is broken. If I pour $400 into a mast and another $150 into a rudder the good deal fades. I did check with Dwyer, the OEM, for the Javelin spars. Freight from CT to NC was $98. The extrusion was roughly $300 the same price as D&R lists on their web site. I will contact them about the used mast. I would guess shipping would be about the same. As for splices, Dwyer does not offer one for the DM275 profile. I do not know of anyone in central NC that works on masts. I did speak with a friend who is a welder and machinist and he said it would be a nightmare to TIG weld it. I have though about different ways to make a splice but am not sure the mast is something I want to take a chance on but would make a go of it if someone had showed me a proven way to do it. splice would be a repair splice

Dwyer might be able to supply a splice to repair the mast, I realise that they don't have one in the catalog. The ones in the catalog are really for small boats, like a dinghy that need to be able to have a two-piece mast to fit inside the boat when not sailing. I'm talking about a permanent sleeve inside the mast to repair the break, it would be about 12" long or more to bridge the break and be screwed (or riveted) as well as glued in place. It would be plenty strong if done right, but obviously..a new mast (or used one) will be better. Zephyr Spars is experienced with these type of repairs, maybe a call to them is worthwile.
