I don't know if I can properly describe the procedure on a web forum - I think it'd be better in person. Since I'm in Detroit, it'd take me a while to get to Perryville, and splicing the main brace isn't something you want to put off for too long (proper maintenance and all), so I'd recommend trying to find someone local to help you. I bet if you walk the dock asking for help, you'd find plenty of people willing and able, sailors are usually pretty friendly when it comes to splicing the main brace.

Good Luck!

Uhhhhhh.. If ya politely ask Captn' Morgan or Sailor Jerry, they'll know for sure.. I am sure you can locate one of those guys on the dock, Ross.. They may even let on as how to Mount Gay !

Re: Hemmingway...

I was thinking Pusser's. I believe an extra ration was given for splicing the main brace...good luck Ross.

I can do a long splice and a short splice, an eye splice and a back splice, I can splice with the lay or against the lay but splicing the main brace seems to be in a whole different realm. Usually after a very stressfull period the captian tells the 1st mate that he may splice the main brace. That is the area where I am in need of instruction.

Hi Guys

Sunday Oct 11/09 was haulout and winterizing day (it was snowing out) for us and I can truthfully say that after the job was done we had no trouble spicing the main brace with what was left of the ships store. There's nothing like sitting in the boatyard in -4 windchill factor and a stiff westerly while cleaning out the ships stores. It was a great day, but a sad day at the same time. Ner mind next spring will see ships store replenished and rellaunching.

Yes, after a period of high stress it is customary to splice the main brace and that is why after letting go of the dock lines I will crack a beer open.
