Need input on 1980 Cat 27

I am on the verge of buying a 1980 Cat 27 and, before I have it surveyed, would like to know what I should look for with respect to problems most likely to be present in a boat of that vintage," e.g., the "infamous smile," etc. I can be reached by email at EMAILHHZ@AOL.COM.

Leakage

I would look at the chainplates - have they been upgraded? Do they appear to leak? Check the uppers and lowers both. Are the bulkheads rotten, especially near the bottom? Does it have regular through hulls instead of the famous Catalina "to-hulls"? How's the engine? Has the rigging (standing

Check under the genoa tracks

My boat had had thechainplate upgrade, but a few of the bolts holding the genoe tracks on are compressing into the hull, one leaks if we heel too much. Take a look at those, they aren't too hard to see.
