I am having to learn the terminology for a sail boat. I just bought a 1974 Javelin and have a frayed wire on the starbord side( Navy 1956). Are these guy wires purchasable as a pre made unit and where is a place around Cumming Ga. that someone would recomend? Or for that matter a reputable place to order the guy wire (shroud ?)? Or are they still available? Thanks for any information for the beginners. (67 years old and determined to learn)

Sidestays

I got a javelin two years ago and have some tips once you get your sidestays. Get some stainless steel/monel wire and wrap it through the holes in the turnbuckles and to the u-shaped fastener for the clevis pin to keep the turnbuckles from unscrewing themselves - otherwise you could de-mast as I did. When raising the mast with the sidestays loosely fastened in place (if you have a tabernackle) make sure the sidestays do not become twisted or you will ruin them as I did. Also check the bolts holding the chainplates to the gunwales to which the sidestay turnbuckle attaches and maybe increase the size of the bolts.

If you only need 1 stay

If you only need one sidestay and D R Marine will only sell a set, you might try the following. I picked mine up, but I assume he will ship. You'll need to tell him the length and details as he does not specialize in O'Day's. I remember the price was more reasonable especially for just one or two. (I recommend you get the Javelin Manual from Dan Reiber on the Yahoo Javelin Sailors Group as it has all dimensions and lots of great information, but if you need them, let me know.) new rigging

the 130 price seems high, would check out JSI first, and would recommend getting the pair as they stretch with use to a point where they stop, if one was found, the other isn't too far behind. cornelb@doacs.state.fl.us
