Oday 23 Peoria
I need some info on an old O’Day 22. I have a 1978 O’Day 23 and have sailed often on a 1979 O’Day 22 belonging to a friend. This old 22 is for sale and I recently inspected it. It does not have a serial number on the transom as the 78 and 79 both do so I can’t tell what year it is.
On the two I am familiar with – the rope and cable to the centerboard come up through a pipe which extends from the bottom of the boat to the deck in front of the companion way entrance to the cabin.
On the O’Day which is for sale, there is a hole in the cabin floor (see picture). It is a foot or so forward of where the pipe is on the other boats. There is no rope exiting the hole (but that may not be a big deal) I question if the water line on the outside of the boat is higher than the exit hole in the cabin – what keeps the water from flooding the cabin? All this looks like “factory condition” not like someone cut off the pipe or otherwise “repaired” the cabin sole.

Anybody have first hand knowledge of this “model” of O’Day 22 or an explanation of what is going on here?

Thanks. Dave

dave, how old is this boat?

I have the Oday that has the "rope" in a tube that pulls up the centerboard, as you are familiar with. I've never seen a floor like the pic, or a hole like that. Where's the bilge?

It doesn't look factory to me, but I'm not an expert. My dock neighbor has a very old Oday 22, but it's no help- even if he had the floor like your pic, it wouldn't matter, as the entire floor was rotted, and he replaced it..... maybe he DID have that hole!;);)
