I am new to sailing, so please forgive me. I just bought a daysailer and don't even know who makes it. It says SL-140 on the side of the boat, on the sail, and on the sail bag. Who makes this boat? I know it is 14' long and has a 19' mast. I think the paint is origonal red on white. I tried to enclose a pic, but we'll see if that works.

I would help if I could

I just do not know anything about this boat. Are there any other identifying names or numbers on the hull or sail.

this is a snipe

the pic below is of a 1939 snipe my sons got for $1.00, the trailor cost the $1 and the boat was on it. This summer I'll post how they rebuilt it.

Could be a Byte

I just checked my book "A field guide to Sailboats" by Richard Sherwood and it looks like a "Byte" which is a modified Laser I am not positive though. Is there a Hull # if there is run it through the Coast Guard Website and it will list the manufacter. Hope that helps!

Need a Better Pic

The truth is that we have a great pic of the sail, boom and mast, but a very low resolution pic of of the hull. And, the hull is a very difficult angle to see the layout. Give us a better pic of the hull, and we can give you a better opinion. Danny

SL-140

I have a SL-140 that looks a lot like the picture. Mine was made by Anchor Fiberglass in Traverse City Michigan, and was a one design class boat. I have not been able to locate the company. I want to sell mine, and keep doing searches to try and find where they may be raced. Claire

SL 140 P.S.

I meant to add that the boat has a covered hatch, a shallow cockpit with hiking straps, a hiking extension on the tiller, a kick up Hi-jacker rudder, and a wooden daggerboard. I have a good picture somewhere and also a fact sheet from the company. I plan to get it out of storage in the next week or few and clean it up, and could get a picture then if it would help. My boat was bought at a Madison Wisconsin boat show in the late 70's, early 80's by a man who used to race in the Mackinac Island race. He had a smaller sail professionally made for it, in addition to keeping the original one "for lighter airs". He thought the boat was very fast. It really was too fast for me and I haven't used it in 20 years.

Not a Byte

Sorry it's not a Byte. My son has one. The emblem on the sail is not the same, and Bytes don't have forstays.
