need info on battery banks

I have a 1984 34 Hunter. I am in the middle of redoing the whole boat. I need some ideas on the wiring and charging system. How many battery banks 2 or 3. Is there any good books out there? I am not green to electrical wiring. I just want to know a good lay out. From charging the bats at the dock to maintain them at sea.Thanks

We use one bank, have for over 15 years. (Golfs) We charge with the engine alternator and a smart charger. (Balmar) The shore system is a ProSine 2.0. It has a hundred amp battery charger, 2KW constant output and a automatic change over switch. All of the cabin lighting is AC too. What you are asking, I've done. use 2 banks, house is 2 6v golfs in series &

starter is 1 12v. On my 84 H34 I have repositioned the 2 6vs under the settee facing forward, next to the water heater towards the center line. It puts them low, almost on center & opens up the starboard lazarett for more fender, line storage. The 12v starter is just behind it under the galley up against the map/fire extinguisher holder. Again lower & almost on center. Shore charger is mounted under the nav station on the wall that backs to the mini locker on sole under the nav station. Yes have to take off the settee wood support to fill/check water level in 6vs but that is done in spring & fall when I drain the water heater anyway.Best of luck

Depends on your usage .....

and if you are using refigeration. I added two 6v golf cart batteries inon the floor of the aft cabin. They were tied to the original charging system with a battery combiner. Kept my investment low because I wanted a better boat but this worked fine for ten years
